Removing an E-commerce transaction from Google Analytics

Why?

Suppose a scenario where online customer made a purchase from an E-Commerce site and Google Analytics tracked and included this into Ecommerce transaction report for the site. Now if the customer canceled the order then we need to make sure that Google Analytics report should reflect this -ve transaction also. So that GA Ecommerce Transaction report display the actual transactions and relevent data like amount etc.

How?

Here is the process to cancel a transaction from Google Analytics. First we need to create a duplicate page for cancellation of order (This may be Order Cancellation Confirmation page or something similar). Now we can use the same JS, which we had used to report a new transaction, but with following limitations :

Use the same transaction ID for the transaction and item form data as was used for the purchase.

The Total field is negative.

There is a positive per unit price and a negative quantity.

If any tax or delivery charges are being credited back they should be shown as negative values in the respective fields in the transaction form data.

If your original transaction was submitted as follows:

Then, the code to remove the transaction needs to be set as follows:

Important:

You will still be able to see the actual transaction and the duplicate negative transaction when you select the day on which these transactions were recorded. However, when you select a date range that includes both the original and the negative transaction, the transaction will not be shown in the report. The negative item quantity should result in the same effect in the products reports.

From past couple of days i started exploring Ubuntu. My experience with version 10.04 is far better than the older ones, maybe its because of the default innocent theme. About section of this fabulous OS says “Ubuntu 10.04 LTS – the Lucid Lynx – released in April 2010 and supported until April 2013.“

Ubuntu – About the Name section says : Ubuntu is a South African ethical ideology focusing on people’s allegiances and relations with each other. The word comes from the Zulu and Xhosa languages. Ubuntu is seen as a traditional African concept, is regarded as one of the founding principles of the new republic of South Africa and is connected to the idea of an African Renaissance. A rough translation of the principle of Ubuntu is “humanity towards others”. Another translation could be: “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity”.

I admire those who are involved in making Linux for Human Being. I was searching about the total number of Ubuntu OS downloads (It was nothing more than one of the random thoughts which pops-up into my mind and refueled my curiosity). Its already 1:00 AM, so couple of lines about why i want to post this is :: If you are using Open Source softwares for any purpose (either for earning or learning), its your responsibility to share your knowledge and experiences back to the open source community. How to recover Ubuntu panel?

gnome-terminal

and click run.

Programming Languages

Many Programming languages claim to be Object-Oriented. But there are seven qualities to be satisfied for a programming language to be pure Object Oriented. They are:

1. Encapsulation/Data Hiding
2. Inheritance
3. Polymorphism
4. Abstraction
5. All predifined types are objects
6. All operations are performed by sending messages to objects
7. All user defined types are objects.

A programming language can be considered as a “Pure” object oriented if it follows all above qualities. Here is a comparison which i found some days back.

Java is not a pure object-oriented language. One of the reasons Java is not purely object-oriented is that not everything in it is an object. For example, Java allows you to declare variables of primitive types (int, float, boolean, etc.) that aren’t objects, Contrast with a pure OOP language like Smalltalk or Ruby where there are no primitive types, and boolean, int and methods are all objects. Also Java has static fields and methods, which are independent and separate from objects this violates real world reflection and object orientation.

I dont know much about Java but generally people say that native multiple inheritance is not supported by Java. I should clear that this post is not biased about any programming language. below is a comparison between the 3 most common language .

Huawei e156g usb modem installation on Ubuntu 10.04

Installation of a cutting edge stuff on Linux machine is always challenging and enforce you to look onto the non-UI part of the picture. I dont know why majority of the IT people like windows, if they are not working on .net!! BTW Last weekend i successfully installed Huawei e156g USB modem on Ubuntu 10.04. Here are the steps:

Step-1 : Open /etc/wvdial.conf in gedit-

sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

if you dont have wvdial installed on your system run:

sudo apt-get install wvdial

Step-2: Replace the text of wvdial.conf (I did for BSNL) with the following:

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = *99#
ISDN = 0
Baud = 460800
Username = " "
Password = " "
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = at+cgdcont=1,"ip","bsnlnet"
Stupid Mode = 1

Save the file. If it cry for permissions run :

sudo chmod 777 /etc/wvdial.conf

Step-3 : Create a new file in /etc/udev/rules.d and rename it to ’15-huawei-e1550.rules’. Copy and paste following line to this file and save:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb",
SYSFS{idProduct}=="1446",
SYSFS{idVendor}=="12d1",
RUN+="/lib/udev/modem-modeswitch --vendor 0x12d1 --product 0x1446 --type option-zerocd"

Step-4 : I dont think restart is needed, (but as i did) restart the system.

Step-5 : Connect your Huawei USB modem device and wait till icon appears on desktop.

Step-6 : Right click on icon and select ‘Eject’ option.

Step-7 : Open terminal and run

wvdial

Output will show you IP information and now you are all set to browse the web.

Rails 3 Setup with RVM

Rails 3.0 requires at least Ruby 1.8.7. Support for all of the previous Ruby versions has been dropped officially. Rails 3.0 is also compatible with Ruby 1.9.2.

What is rvm?
RVM is a command line tool which allows us to easily install, manage and work with multiple ruby environments from interpreters to sets of gems. More info about RVM

Install ruby 1.9.1 and Rails 3 using rvm in Ubuntu 9.10

To install rvm:

bash < <( curl http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/releases/rvm-install-head )

I guess git is required for this. You can check whether git is installed using “git –version”, if not:

sudo apt-get install git
sudo apt-get install git-core

After Installation :
put the following line into your profile(/home/.profile) at the very bottom.

if [[ -s "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" ]]  ; then source "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" ; fi

Then load the new code into your current shell and start using RVM

 source ~/.rvm/scripts/rvm

Be sure to install any dependencies for your operating system.

rvm notes

Now add the sourcing line at the end of your profiles (~/.bashrc or ~/.bash_profile):

[[ -s "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" ]] && source "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm"

Then open a new shell and start using RVM!

 rvm install 1.9.1

(This will install ruby in .rvm folder. see /home//.rvm/src and bin)

 ruby -v

To switch back to your system’s ruby :
